The Maharashtra Legislative Council on 07 July, 2025 passed the Gadchiroli District Mining Authority Bill, aimed at ensuring coordinated and rapid development of mineral-bearing areas in Gadchiroli district.
The authority’s objectives include expediting development of mineral blocks, coordinating between mineral concession holders and industries, facilitating ultra mega steel plants, ensuring raw material supply, and transforming Gadchiroli—long affected by Naxalism—into a steel hub with mineral-based industrial development.
The new legislation replaces the Gadchiroli District Mining Authority 2025 and will apply to both major and specified minor minerals, the government said. The authority formed under the new bill will be chaired by the Chief Minister. “One minister nominated by the CM will be its co-chairperson and another minister deputy chairperson,” the government stated.
Two more Ministers nominated by the CM will serve as ex-officio members, along with the Chief Secretary and Secretaries of Industries, Labour, Energy, Finance, Environment And Climate Change, Revenue, and Forests departments. The Director General of the Directorate of Geology and Mining, the Gadchiroli Collector, and the Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Mining Corporation will also be ex-officio members, with the latter acting as the authority's Member Secretary.
