The new integrated terminal building of Mangalore airport at Kenjar is likely
to be operationalised by early August 2010. The Rs 160-crore terminal building
was inaugurated in March 2010.
The Airports Authority of India has advised the Mangalore airport authorities
to shift the operations from the existing terminal building to the new
integrated terminal building.
The terminal building has parking bays for five wide-bodied aircraft. The
apron can accommodate three Airbus 310 and two Airbus 321. The building has
18,220 sq mtrs of area to handle 500 domestic and 200 international passengers
at a peak hours.
The Mangalore Airport authorities are exploring the possibility of extension
of the second runway by 1,000 ft at the airport. The second runway has a length
of 8,000 ft (2,450 mtrs). The extension of the runway by another 1,000 ft is
likely to help airport get international status.
