Suppliers to the memory and storage chip manufacturer Micron Technology plan to build a semiconductor packaging plant in India, and have urged for extended government support in their effort to mark footprints near the new facility in Gujarat alongside Micron.
They revelealed their plans at the Semicon India, 2023 global summit. Simmtech, a supplier of IC packaging substrate to tier-I semiconductor firms, is preparing for a co-location investment with Micron, which is motivated by its customer's movement and the demand for its products. Similarly, Air Liquide and Kulicke & Soffa (K&S), equipment solutions provider for chip packaging, also expressed their willingness to expand to support the plant.
In June, 2023, Micron announced plans to build a semiconductor assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) plant in Gujarat under the government’s USD 10 billion production-linked incentive scheme (PLI).
The support is anticipated to allow for smooth flow of move-in parts and storage without being inhibited by import duties and lengthy procedures.
