The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) announced the arrival of a trial train at Cuffe Parade, the final station of Mumbai’s first underground metro, Metro Line 3 (Aqualine). This milestone signals progress toward completing Phase-II and opening it to the public by July 2025.
Currently, 12.69 km of the 33.5 km Aqualine is operational from Aarey JVLR to Bandra Kurla Complex since October 2024. Phase-II trials are divided into two sections. The 9.77-km Phase 2A, from Dharavi to Acharya Atrey Chowk, has begun system trials, covering stations at Dharavi, Sitaladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atrey Chowk. Reports suggest this stretch may open by March 2025 after inspection and safety approvals.
Phase 2B, a 10.99-km section from Acharya Atrey Chowk to Cuffe Parade, is also progressing. With the overhead catenary system and track installation completed, MMRC is now focused on final system fitments, architectural finishes, and road restoration to ensure full operational readiness.
