NSPCL Bhilai—a joint venture between NTPC and SAIL, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) to use 18 million litres per day (MLD) of treated wastewater from the Chandandih sewage treatment plant (STP) for industrial purposes.
This initiative aims to reduce dependency on freshwater sources and aid groundwater rejuvenation, marking a significant green push in Chhattisgarh. NSPCL will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and fund the construction of pipelines to transport the treated water. The project aligns with national programs such as the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Groundwater Conservation Mission.
With a treatment capacity of 75 MLD, the Chandandih STP will now contribute directly to pollution control by diverting treated water for industrial reuse, minimising river and drain contamination. The MoU was formalised under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy CM Arun Sao, who also heads the Urban Administration and Development Department.
