NTPC's 1,000 MW (2x500 MW) Simhadri super thermal power project - Stage II in
Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh is likely to be completed by March
2011.
The company is adding two units of 500 MW each in addition to the existing
two units of similar capacity at the power plant at an investment of Rs 5,000
crore. The Unit I of 500 MW under Stage II is likely to be synchronised by
December 2010 and the Unit II of similar capacity by March 2011.
NTPC will get coal from Talcher in Orissa, Singareni in Andhra Pradesh and it
may also import coal if necessary. The coal handling plants, being constructed
by L&T, are also getting ready. Two more cooling towers are being built for the
additional two units. The third cooling tower is almost ready and the fourth one
is also in an advanced stage of construction.
