The Punjab Government has allotted the thermal power plant being set up in
Gidderbaha to NTPC. The two parties inked an MoU in this regard on 7 October
2010.
NTPC will complete the 2,640 MW (4x660 MW) coal based power project within 36
months. It is estimated to entail an investment of Rs 15,000 crore. According to
the agreement, at least 50 per cent of the power from the plant will be
allocated to Punjab.
The state government has agreed to facilitate the acquisition of land,
allocation of water and conveyed in-principle clearance for about 2,316 acre and
125 cusecs of water for the plant.
