The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and Delhi Metro have come up with a third route which will connect two ends of the Blue Line. Earlier, the UP government had rejected the funding proposals for the two metro extension projects, comprising Electronic City to Sahibabad, and Vaishali to Mohan Nagar.
According to the new proposal, the extension will make trains operational between Vaishali and Electronic City, which will give access to Noida and Ghaziabad passengers. Currently, Blue Line trains have a common route till Yamuna Bank, after which the Vaishali and Electronic City lines bifurcate.
The proposed 5.8 km Vaishali to Electronic City route will pass over NH-9, and go past the CISF camp and Indirapuram, and head towards Niti Khand, Gyan Khand and Ramprastha Greens before terminating at Vaishali. Passengers from the Electronic City Metro station who deboard at Vaishali Metro station, can take the RapidX from Sahibabad to Ghaziabad station in Duhai, which will ensure seamless connectivity from Noida Electronic City to Vaishali and Ghaziabad.
The route, at the rate of Rs 200 crore/km, is estimated to cost about Rs 1,166 crore, compared to Rs 3,325 crore for the two routes proposed earlier.
The GDA and Delhi Metro will now conduct a joint inspection of the proposed Vaishali-Electronic City route. Post this, the DPR will be prepared by the Metro Corporation. The financing pattern will cover 50 percent contribution by the Centre, 30 percent by the state, while the remaining 20 percent is to be shared by agencies like GDA, UPSIDC and the Housing Board.
