Coal India (CIL) has urged NTPC to shift its 1,980 MW thermal power plant
located at North Karanpura in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand as it will block
about six billion tonne of coal, if established.
The Rs 8,000-crore project spread over 2500 acre was planned nine years ago
but is yet to take off.
NTPC is likely to relocate the plant to one of the five alternative locations
provided by CIL. The decision on relocation was taken at an inter-ministerial
meeting held on 11 February 2010.
The North Karanpura coalfield is spread over 1,230 sq km and has proven
reserves of 14 billion tonne.
