Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is expected to develop an SEZ for the port
on 276 ha near Belpada-Karal villages on the Panvel-Uran road.
JNPT has conducted a feasibility study of the proposed SEZ and has sent the
same to the Union Government for approval.
The Rs 3,000-crore SEZ is likely to comprise both processing and
non-processing units to meet the requirements of not only JNPT but also the
proposed airport coming up near Navi Mumbai.
