PFC has reportedly extended the last date for submission of RFQs till 5 July
2010 for Chhattisgarh Ultra Mega Power project (UMPP). Earlier, the last date of
submission bids was 3 May 2010.
The bidding date has been extended to get more clarity on allocation of
captive coal block attached with the Chhattisgarh UMPP. The two coal blocks -
Pindarakhi and Puta Parogia - allocated by Union Ministry of Coal in 2009 for
Chhattisgarh project fall in densely forested Hasdeo Arand coal fields area.
This has been identified as clear no-go areas for mining purpose. The reserve of
these blocks is over 1.1 billion tonne enough to meet the requirements of the
power project.
A lot of domestic as well as international companies including companies
including L&T, NTPC, Tata Power, Sterlite Industries, Jindal Steel & Power,
Essar Power, GVK Power & Infrastructure, AES Power, Lanco Infratech, Dian Wijaya
(Malaysia), Torrent Power and Citra are keen on the project.
