Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati to develop technology for the production of marketable grade green activated carbon.
Bamboo dust would be generated while preparing bamboo chips for the second-generation bio-refinery being set up by NRL through its JV company, Assam BioRefinery. As part of the project, a plant of capacity five MT per batch will be set up to produce green activated carbon by pyrolyzing bamboo dust.
The research and development (R&D) project is also aimed towards development of technology for production of very high grade chemically activated carbon which find application in pharmaceutical, electronics and mining industries.
The project will be executed as industry-academia collaboration, and would enhance the capacity of both NRL and IIT Guwahati with relevant data and information sharing.
