The government of Odisha has established a project monitoring group (PMG) to expedite the process of project clearance.
The group will take up smaller projects worth Rs 100 crore to Rs 1,000 crore which are stuck for various reasons.
Apart from Odisha, thirteen other states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, are likely to follow suit by the end of June 2014. Uttaranchal is likely to have a PMG on 19 May, 2014; Kerala will put one in place on 29 May, 2014; Karnataka on 30 May, 2014; and Chhattisgarh on 2 June, 2014. Other states, such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Jharkhand will also launch their respective PMGs in the month of June.
The state-level project clearance mechanism will be integrated with that of the Centre to facilitate the complex process that a company currently has to go through at both, federal and state levels to get all the necessary clearances.
