Out of the 207 mega drinking water supply projects initiated by the Odisha state government, only 26 have been completed so far.
To address this, the government aims to expedite the remaining projects. Official sources stated that more than 50 percent of the work on 134 of these projects has been finished, while 47 others are still in preliminary stages. Funded under various schemes, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, the projects were launched during the previous BJD government before 2024. Chief Secretary Anu Garg reviewed the delays in a meeting on 13 January, 2026 instructing officials to identify the causes.
Districts like Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh have seen several projects left unfinished, with 15, 11, and 10 pending, respectively. CS Garg urged officials to create a timeline for completing the outstanding projects. Additionally, the progress of rural drinking water initiatives, including pipe water and solar-run tube wells, was also reviewed.
