Eight years after its launch, Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) 24x7 water supply project continues to face delays, with only 25 of the planned 82 overhead water tanks commissioned so far.

While the civic body claims that construction of 66 tanks is complete, 41 remain non-functional due to incomplete supply line connections. Civic officials cited land acquisition as a major challenge causing delays. “The civic administration is generating funds for the project. The funds will be used for building connecting lines between water tanks and taps of end users,” said Nandkishor Jagtap, Head of PMC's water supply department.

The project includes an investment of around Rs 280 crore for tank construction, with capacities ranging from 20 to 40 lakh litres. Currently, 700 km of a planned 1,060 km distribution line is complete, with 70 percent of 3.14 lakh meter installations finished. Rs 1,471 crore of the Rs 2,048 crore project budget has been spent.

Completion is expected by December 2025, with full operationalisation by March 2026.
