The authorities have decided to expand the existing Pantnagar Airport in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttrakhand instead of building the new greenfield airport, which was originally proposed.
The decision to this effect was made based on the finding that the greenfield project was not feasible due to challenges involved such as land acquisition issues, environmental concerns, as well as funding constraints. However, the necessary steps by way of expansion will be taken to develop it to international standards.
As per the plan layout, establishments will come under the jurisdiction of this expansion plan, such as Pantnagar Industrial Area, University's Breeder Seed Production Centre (BSPC), Vegetable Research Centre (VRC), Agro Forestry Research Centre, and Directorate of University Farms, among others.
The Pantnagar airport is located in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, and operates under the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
