On 24 April 2020, the government announced a list of 134 districts, where the impact of COVID-19 is severe. These hotspot districts house 31,025 projects with a total outlay of Rs 56,07,785 crore and together account for 41.8 percent of the total number of projects and 36.4 percent of the total outstanding projex as of 31 March 2020.
These Red zone districts are spread across 24 states and Union Territories. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat are the top five states where bulk of the projects investment have been halted due to the current lockdown.
In Maharashtra 6,595 projects worth Rs 12,11,654 crore are located in the hotspot districts. In Andhra Pradesh, 2,794 projects worth Rs 10,92,474 crore are stuck. While in Tamil Nadu 3,033 projects with a total outlay of Rs 5,28,557 crore, and in Delhi 1,261 projects worth Rs 4,26,502 crore are stuck due to the lockdown.
Gujarat, the number two ranked state in terms of total outstanding investment as well as Corona virus cases (as on 01 May 2020), has 2,233 projects with investment commitment of Rs 3,64,818 crore in the six hotspot districts.
