Reliance Industries (RIL) has
completed the acquisition of more than 13,000 acre for its SEZ project at
Jhajjar, Haryana. The Jhajjar project, called Reliance Haryana SEZ, is a JV
between RIL and Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC).
The company is trying to solve the
issue of the 12,500 acre upper cap that the government had imposed on SEZs last
year. Though RIL has acquired land more than what is required for its
multiproduct SEZ, the acquired land is not in contiguity. As per RIL's initial
agreement with HSDIC, RIL will get 25 per cent land from the corporation only
when it acquires its 75 per cent share of land. RIL aims to complete the
acquisition of 17,500 acre in the next couple of months. Then the company will
ask HSIDC to acquire the remaining 7,500 acre in patches, where the company has
not been successful in getting land directly from farmers. This will solve the
problem of contiguity.
