M Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated on 11 June 2009, a
Rs 616 crore combined drinking water supply scheme in Ramanathapuram.
The scheme had been envisaged to provide 50 mld initially and 100 mld at a
later stage.
In Phase I, people of Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, Paramakudi, Keezhakarai
municipal areas and Mandapam, Sayalkudi, Mudukulathur, Kamudhi and Abiramam
panchayat unions are to be benefited. In Phase II, wayside 32 habitations in
Pudukottai district and 799 habitations in Sivaganga district will be supplied
drinking water.
