The Andhra Pradesh government has prepared a Rs 130 crore plan to revamp the sewage system in Machilipatnam, aimed at resolving long-standing drainage issues and preventing water stagnation during the rainy season.
Minister for Mines & Geology and Excise, Kollu Ravindra highlighted that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu acted swiftly following concerns raised at the recent Collectors’ Conference, sanctioning Rs 13 crore for the first phase of the project. This will fund nearly 50 percent of the work, while the remaining Rs 115 crore will be allocated for expansion and strengthening of the system. The broader plan includes upgrades to sewage, sanitation, streetlights, and road infrastructure within the municipal limits to improve overall civic amenities.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone for underground drainage (UGD) and CC road works worth Rs 67.57 lakh across the port city. “The sewage problem near the district jail and other areas has plagued residents for years. New sewage canals will now divert rainwater directly into the main canal,” he said.
