Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) is set to begin supplying 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal annually from its Naini coal block in Odisha to Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation (Tamil Nadu Genco).
The fuel supply agreement (FSA) is expected to be finalised within the next 10 days. The move follows discussions between SCCL Chairman and MD N. Balram and Tamil Nadu Genco MD M. Govind Rao regarding coal requirements for their 1,200 MW Udangudi thermal power plant in Thoothukudi district. With production at Naini already underway, coal will be efficiently transported via rail and waterways.
This supply will ensure uninterrupted fuel availability for the plant, reinforcing SCCL’s ongoing collaboration with Tamil Nadu Genco. SCCL currently supplies 1.75 million tonnes annually to the North Chennai thermal power plant, highlighting its pivotal role in Tamil Nadu’s energy infrastructure.
