Sree Metaliks (SML) intends to set up a 540 MW (2x270 MW) coal based power
plant at an investment of around Rs 2,500 crore, at Chardia village in Bhadrak
district of Orissa.
SML has identified 750 acre at Chardia village for the project which is
likely to have the power plant, a township and a desalination plant. Land
acquisition is to be completed within six months.
Construction work on the power plant is to commence by March 2011 and the
Unit I of the plant is likely to begin operations within two years. It is
planning to use a mix of imported and indigenous coal for the power project.
Currently, the company is scouting for coal mines in Mozambique.
Besides, SML has lined up an investment of Rs 960 crore to set up a 0.7
million tpa integrated steel plant, 2x0.6 million tpa pelletisation plant (in
two phases), 1.0 million tpa iron ore beneficiation plant and a 50 MW captive
power plant at Anra. Unit I of the pelletisation plant is slated to go on stream
by June 2010. These projects are expected to be operationalised within four
years.
The total land requirement for the steel plant, pelletisation plant and the
iron ore beneficiation plant is 480 acre. While SML has already acquired 225
acre at Anra through direct purchase, the remaining land is being acquired by
Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation.
These projects have already received the State Level Single Window Clearance
Authority of the Orissa Government. SML has got the mining lease for the
Khandabandh iron ore mines.
