Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up a centre for advanced manufacturing in Chennai to support new business models and develop digital transformation for manufacturing-based companies. To this end, on 22 August, 2023, over 20 industry leaders gathered for a discussion for establishing a hub in association with the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The objective of the proposed centre also includes fostering industry-academia collaboration to drive innovation and facilitating system-wide collaborations to enhance supply chain decarbonization.
The Minister of Industries TRB Rajaa conveyed that the state is committed to establish such a facility, which will enable the country's economic growth. Further, the state's partnership with the WEF and other stakeholders is crucial in positioning Tamil Nadu in the higher value-added segment.
The government is considering setting up knowledge parks in major cities in partnership with international research institutes to boost the capabilities of Tamil Nadu and attract critical industries like semiconductors, green hydrogen, and solar PV module manufacturers.
