Nearly 80 per cent of the land owners in Raigad district in Maharashtra have
given their nod to Tata Power for land acquisition for its 2,400 MW coal based
power project. The project has been hanging in fire owing land acquisition
problems.
The company requires 460 ha for the power project to be developed at an
investment of Rs 10,000 crore. The project to be developed in phased manner is
expected to have 1,600 MW in Phase I and the remaining 800 MW in Phase II.
The land acquisition is likely to be completed by January 2010 and the
company intends to start construction by March 2010. The land acquisition is
likely to be carried out under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act and
not under the Land Revenue Act. The MIDC, which is a nodal agency for the
industrial development, will acquire land and hand it over to Tata Power.
