Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has announced that the state government is preparing proposals to supply water from the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) to Suryapet district.
Speaking at a Congress district-level meeting, the Minister said the government is committed to restoring SRSP’s original capacity of 112 tmc ft., which has reduced to 80 tmc due to siltation. Desilting works and canal repairs will be initiated to ensure uninterrupted water flow. He credited late Congress leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy for bringing SRSP Phase-2 water to the region and said the project will be renamed in his honour, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s approval.
The government’s focus on Suryapet’s irrigation and infrastructure development was also reaffirmed by the Minister, citing key projects such as the six-lane expansion of National Highway, and the approval of a new railway line.
