The Tirunelveli Corporation aims to complete 80 percent of its third-phase underground drainage (UGD) project in Palayamkottai and Melapalayam Zones by December 31, said Superintending Engineer Kannan.
Responding to Palayamkottai Zone Chairman M Francis, he noted that 44 percent of work was done, progressing at 1.30 km daily, with roads restored post-pipe laying. “Hence, we are hopeful of completing 80% of this work by December 31,” he stated, adding that 8–9 drainage blocks are removed daily.
On the Ariyanayagipuram Drinking Water Scheme, the TWAD Board has provided over 24,000 of the targeted 33,000 household connections. Over the past five years, the Corporation executed 1,763 roadworks, completing 326 km at Rs 173 crore. Mayor G. Ramakrishnan pledged garbage compacting to prevent fire spread.
