To address the acute water shortage in Khoda, Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam is set to propose a new plan to the state government to supply 50 million litres per day (MLD) of treated Ganga water directly from the Upper Ganga Canal.
Khoda, home to about 45,000 households, has a daily water demand of 38 MLD but currently receives only 10 MLD, mostly via water tankers and temporary arrangements. “After the denial by the Noida authority, we started to look for alternatives,” said Rajesh Kumar Pankaj, Chief Engineer, UP Jal Nigam (Ghaziabad zone).
The Rs 183 crore project under AMRUT 2.0 was stalled after Noida refused to share its Ganga water allocation from the Pratap Vihar treatment plant. The new proposal will require fresh infrastructure development along NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
