The Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL), a public sector undertaking (PSU), under the Department of Atomic Energy, will take up 13 projects worth Rs 10,500 crore.
The detailed project reports (DPRs) for the 13 projects are at various stages of preparation.
The projects have in-principle approval from the Atomic Energy Commission. Once the DPRs are ready, they will be sent to various committees, and then tabled for approval of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
Once the projects are implemented, it will enable UCIL to raise production of uranium by over three times the present output.
The projects are located in Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and include expansion projects.
One of the 13 projects to be taken up by PSU is at Chitrial in Nalgonda district of Telangana. The project is estimated to entail an investment of Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore.
Moreover, the country’s first 800 MW advanced ultra-supercritical power plant will be undertaken by the end of 2020.
Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) is in the process of expanding its facility in Hyderabad, apart from setting up a facility at Kota in Rajasthan.
