The Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) has begun implementing a 24x7 water supply project for Town Planning (TP) Schemes I to IV in Tamando and Chandaka on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
The initiative includes constructing 11 elevated storage reservoirs and providing tap water connections to 5,191 households in TP Schemes I–III and another 475 in Scheme IV. A tender has been floated to select a construction firm to complete the project in two years, with WATCO responsible for maintaining the system for 60 months. Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice-Chairman N Thirumala Naik said WATCO is handling drinking water infrastructure, while the BDA oversees road and drainage development. Future phases will add underground sewerage.
So far, the BDA has completed 60 km of embankment roads, 65 km of drainage, 29 culverts, and 4 km of bitumen work. The TP schemes aim to ensure holistic and planned urban expansion, with landowners contributing 40 percent of land for infrastructure and retaining 60 percent for personal use.
