A World Bank delegation visited Ludhiana to review ongoing work on the canal-based water supply project, which aims to bring treated surface water to the city through a modern network of reservoirs and pipelines.
Led by consultant BKD Raja, the team inspected the upcoming world-class water treatment plant at Bilga near Sahnewal and several overhead water reservoir sites across the city. Senior engineers and project officials accompanied the delegation during the review. The project’s first phase, funded by the World Bank and AIIB, involves civil works worth about Rs 1,300 crore and is targeted for completion by 2028. Officials said the new system will significantly improve water quality and supply reliability once operational.
The visiting team appreciated the current pace of work and issued instructions for its timely execution. MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal assured that he is closely monitoring progress, stressing that “strict directions have been issued to complete the works within the stipulated time.”
