Amara Raja Batteries (ARBL) will set up a research and manufacturing facility for lithium-ion batteries in Mahbubnagar district, Telangana. The company plans to invest over Rs 9,500 crore over the next 10 years in a lithium cell gigafactory with an ultimate capacity of up to 16 GWh and a battery pack assembly unit with a capacity of up to five GWh.

Chairman and MD, Amara Raja Batteries, Jayadev Galla, made the announcement in the presence of KT Rama Rao, Telangana's Minister for Industries, after signing a formal MoU on 07 March 2025. The Minister stated, “Telangana has been a front-runner in adopting sustainability, and it is a proud moment for the State to welcome the country’s largest ever investment in the lithium-ion cell manufacturing sector.”

The company has chosen Telangana to develop the Amara Raja Giga Corridor, which will include a pioneering advanced energy research and innovation centre in Hyderabad, named the Amara Raja E-hub. This facility will have advanced laboratories and testing infrastructure for material research, prototyping, product life cycle analysis, and proof of concept demonstration. 

ARBL expects the E-hub to act as a catalyst for multi-stakeholder collaboration and foster entrepreneurship in sustainable energy technologies, aligning with the Government of India's ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision.

Additionally, ARBL will establish a commercial-scale pilot plant and the first giga-scale cell production facility. To advance this project, the company had previously announced the incorporation of a subsidiary named Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies.
