KPIT Technologies and Trentar Energy Solutions have entered into a partnership for commercialisation of sodium-ion battery technology.

KPIT will transfer its technology to Trentar, who will invest in a three GWh manufacturing facility and pay KPIT upfront and royalty fees. This collaboration positions both companies as leaders in the development of sodium-ion technology, aiming to make electric mobility more affordable and sustainable by using earth-abundant materials.

Sodium-ion batteries are seen as advantageous for electric vehicles, offering longer lifespan, faster charging, and lower production costs due to the use of readily available materials. These batteries are expected to serve a variety of applications, from powering two- to four-wheeled vehicles, public transport, to stationary uses like UPS backups and grid storage. The technology also holds promise for industries like marine and defense.

Trentar's investment demonstrates the anticipated demand for this innovative battery technology, which could reshape multiple sectors.
