NLC India is in talks with the Andaman and Nicobar authorities to set up an additional 20 MWh battery storage. The installation of additional battery capacity will require a capex of around Rs 250 crore.

The project will enable the union territory to reduce its dependence on highly polluting diesel generators and to ensure grid stability. NLC will be the first public sector company to establish a battery storage system at a grid scale.

Till date, the company has a 20 MW solar plant and eight MWh storage capacity in south Andaman. NLC expects to set up over 6,000 MW RE generation capacity by 2030, with an investment of Rs 24,000 crore. For this, the company has formed a wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables (NIRL), and will transfer all renewable assets to it.

Currently, the company is developing a 300 MW capacity at Khavda solar park in Gujarat, with another 300 MW in the green-shoe option. Apart from participating in a solar park in Rajasthan for 810 MW, it also plans to install more capacity in Uttar Pradesh.
