Saint-Gobain has commenced construction of its seventh float glass line and fifth mineral wool insulation line at its Oragadam facility near Chennai, signalling a significant scale-up of its India footprint.

The new float glass unit, with a capacity of 1,000 tonne per day, will address growing demand for high value-added glass in the construction sector. Equipped with advanced digital capabilities and energy-efficient systems, the plant aims to minimise environmental impact. Concurrently, the company is building its largest Asia-Pacific mineral wool insulation facility, with an annual capacity of 50,000 tonne. Designed as a near net-zero carbon plant, it will cater to India’s expanding building construction market, incorporating the latest digital and engineering innovations.

According to Sreedhar N, Senior Vice-President and CEO – Asia Pacific and India, these projects will enhance Saint-Gobain’s ability to deliver high-performance, sustainable solutions tailored to market needs. The investments highlight the company’s strategic focus on Industry 4.0 technologies, sustainable manufacturing, and differentiated product offerings to meet rising domestic and regional demand.
