ECDS, a company specialising in sustainable development technologies, has announced plans to set up its first medical equipment manufacturing unit in India, located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

The Rs 780 crore investment will be made under a joint venture (JV) with three South Korean companies. The unit will be built on 15.60 acres at the Medical Equipment Park in Vikram Udyogpuri, Ujjain, with 1.5 acres already acquired. Construction is set to begin this year, with the first phase of production expected to start by April 2027. The initial phase aims to create employment opportunities for around 500 people. ECDS plans to invest an additional Rs 1,250 crore in the second phase, scheduled within three years of production commencement.

The Ujjain facility will focus on manufacturing medical kits for disease testing, including for cancer, kidney disease, and diabetes. Rajesh Bharadwaj, Director of ECDS's Indian branch, said, "This will be our first unit in the country."
