The Bihar government’s building construction department is moving forward with plans to demolish the existing Bihar Niwas in New Delhi and replace it with a larger, more modern facility.
The demolition work is set to begin later this month. The new nine-storey building, designed in a 2B+G+6 configuration, will have nearly three times the built-up area of the current five-storey structure. The Rs 123 crore project is already on track, with tenders awarded.
Bihar Niwas, which has served as both office space and transit accommodation for government officials and dignitaries from Bihar, has stood at the heart of Delhi near the Central Secretariat since its inauguration in 1994. "The project is moving ahead as planned," said a government official.
