The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced a Rs 600 crore investment to modernise the aging Manjeera drinking water infrastructure. Alongside this, Rs 3.52 crore has been earmarked for urgent repair work.

During an inspection of the 65-year-old Manjeera Barrage, HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy confirmed the structure's stability and informed that the barrage’s gates and ropes were operational, though the apron had suffered damage. He has ordered immediate repairs and emphasized regular upkeep, including greasing, painting, lighting, and removal of overgrown vegetation within a week. He also directed the installation of fencing along the spillway to improve safety.

The Board had earlier finalised repair proposals in May 2023, and work is currently underway. While gate tightening has been completed, full replacement of gates, ropes, and bearings is still in progress and is expected to take 45 days. To facilitate this work, water from the Manjeera reservoir will be released below the minimum drawdown level (MDL), following recent recommendations by the State Dam Safety Authority.
