The much awaited 8.24 km Chembur-Wadala Phase-I of the Mumbai Monorail project is scheduled to be operational by end-January 2014.
The Chembur-Wadala section received its final safety certificate recently. The section comprises of 7 stations — Wadala Depot Station, Bhakti Park, Mysore Colony, Bharat Petroleum, Fertilizer Township, VNP and RC Marg, and Chembur.
The complete 20 km long Jacob Circle-Wadala-Chembur monorail route is likely to be commissioned for commercial operations by March 2015. The monorail project will be the first of its kind in the country. The concept occupies far less space than other conventional modes of transport and provides a fast, efficient and pollution free ride.
