The Southern India Mills' Association (SIMA), an industrial body of textile mills in south India, has proposed to set up a captive power plant for the mills in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.
The association has already submitted a proposal to the Union government for setting up a 250 MW power plant with an investment of Rs 1,250 crore. As per the proposal, the mills will finance 50 per cent of the equity and the centre will give 30 per cent of the equity as grant for the proposed power unit. The proposal is still in the initial stage.
