The Kapurdi lignite mine expansion project was accorded environmental clearance by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) on 22 September, 2014.
The Kapurdi lignite open cast mine project is being implemented by Barmer Lignite Mining Company (BLMCL). The capacity of the mine will be increased from 3.75 million tpa to seven million tpa.
BLMCL is a joint venture between Rajasthan State Mines & Minerals, a government of Rajasthan company (51 per cent) and Raj West Power (49 per cent). The company was incorporated for meeting the lignite requirements of the 1,080 MW (8x135 MW) thermal power plant of Raj West Power (RWPL) from the Kapurdi and Jalipa lignite blocks. All eight units of RWPL have been commissioned in March 2013.
The entire lignite produced by BLMCL from these mines is for exclusive use as fuel for this power project.
