The Board of Directors of NTPC has given approval for an investment plan for its coal-based power project at Darlipalli in Sundargarh district of Orissa.
The board has given its nod for an investment plan of Rs 12,532.44 crore for a 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW) power plant. The project is expected to be commissioned by 2018.
The company requires 1,652 acre for this power station. Notification under Section 4 (1) of the Land Acquisition Act has been issued for 32.36 acre of private land required for rehabilitation and resettlement colony. Moreover, the company has also received administrative approval for acquisition of 55 acre private land for the Merry-Go-Round (MGR) system to carry coal to the plant.
The power plant will source water from the Hirakud reservoir in the Mahanadi river. NTPC has secured coal linkage for this project from Dulanga coal block, with a mine capacity of seven million tpa under command area of Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), and from Pakri Barwadih block in Bihar's Hazaribagh district, with a mining capacity of 12.5 million tpa.
The Orissa government will get 50 per cent power from the Darlipalli project.
NTPC is developing a coal-based power plant at Darlipaili with a total capacity of 4,800 MW. The project will be developed in three phases and each phase will comprise 1,600 MW (2 x 800 MW).
