The Karnataka state cabinet has approved a
proposal to double the capacity of its Bidadi power project near Bangalore, to
1,400 MW, on 16 October 2003.
It may be recalled that the 2 x 350 MW phase-I
of Bidadi power project is to be executed through a special purpose vehicle ‘KPC
Bidadi Power Corporation’.
Five companies – Reliance, GAIL and Bharat
Petroleum are believed to have evinced interest to supply liquefied natural gas
(LNG) for the project, which is slated for commissioning in 2007.
