B. Overseas
B-1. Konkola Copper Mines (Zambia)
The board of directors approved a $125 million
expansion project at the Nkana smelter associated with the Konkola Copper Mines
in Zambia. The project aims to increase copper smelting capacity to 3 lakh tpa,
which would enable it to process higher amount of copper concentrates from the
group's Konkola mines (also under expansion) and also toll-treat concentrates
from other mines in Zambia. The project will be financed largely by internal
accruals, supplemented by debt. Technology for the smelter expansion, targeted
for completion by mid-2008, will be sourced from Outokompu of Finland.
