Tata Power Company's 250 MW 'Unit VIII' at the Trombay Thermal Power Station
in Chembur, Mumbai commenced operation on 29 March 2009.
The unit is expected to operate on imported Indonesian coal and will enhance
the generation capacity of the Trombay Thermal Plant to 1,600 MW from the
current capacity of 1,350 MW. The civil works for the project has been executed
by Larsen & Toubro whereas the main plant and balance of equipment has been
executed by BHEL for supply, erection and commissioning under EPC contract. The
first synchronisation of the 250 MW Unit VIII with the grid was achieved in
January 2009.
