Kerala Minerals and Metals (KMML) which is setting up a titanium sponge plant
in Kollam, Kerala, is expected to go on-stream by July 2010.
The Rs 170-crore project is being funded by the Indian Space Research
Organisation (ISRO) and will have a capacity to produce 500 tonne of titanium
sponge.
The raw material for the production of titanium sponge is to be supplied by
KMML and it will be titanium dioxide, which is to be processed from the
mineral-rich sand found in the coastal areas of the state.
