The Maharashtra Government has sanctioned Rs 175 crore to the Kolhapur
Municipal Corporation (KMC) under the 'Suvarna Jayanti Nagar Punruthhan Urban
Renewal' scheme.
Of the total amount, 50 per cent will be given as a grant, while the
remaining 50 per cent will be made available as soft loan at low interest.
About Rs 76 crore is likely to be spent on storm water drains to prevent
floods in low-lying areas of the city. The remaining funds are to be spent on
constructing link roads and other roads in suburban parts of the city.
