A proposal has been put forward wherein private developers of SEZs and
townships will get rights to distribute electricity in their developed
properties on behalf of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).
MSEDCL has sought the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission's nod to
entrust distribution of electricity to the developers of these properties. As
many as 56 SEZs and townships are in the pipeline in the state.
MSEDCL has proposed to charge township consumers a bulk tariff rate of Rs
4.13 paise a unit and Rs 3.96 paise a unit for those in exclusive industrial
areas.
