The World Bank (WB) is likely to give a huge grant to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore to develop the city traffic and public transportation infrastructure in Hyderabad.

The state has been earmarked requirement of around Rs 4,128 crore for improvement of road network, signages, public transport, multi-level parking etc. The plan was prepared for seeking funds under the JNNURM Plus, as only eight per cent of the funds was utilised to the city thus far from the Mission.

Funds have been sought for integrated traffic system and developing four model roads already widened with cycle tracks and nine exclusive bus corridors on high density routes of 200 km (Rs 750 crore) and the proposed elevated metro rail under the PPP mode. Forty-four radial roads are to be developed (Rs 550 crore), grade separators (Rs 300 crore), 15 bridges across the Musi river (Rs 300 crore), 10 road under bridges (Rs 50 crore) and link roads (Rs 100 crore) are envisaged.

Model roads are likely to be developed across 200 km including an eight-km exclusive bicycle track in Cyberabad. Road renewal works for a length of 600 km (Rs 1,000 crore), service ducts 1,200 km (Rs 600 crore), 100 junctions improvement (Rs 30 crore), 500 bus bays (Rs 150 crore), parking complexes (Rs 25 crore) and footpaths to be developed across 4,500 km of road length with 1,500 km under the Phase I.
