The Punjab Government on 16 April 2010 has approved the development of two
new urban estates at Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.
The state government gave its nod for the acquisition of 200 acre at
Pathankot and 140 acre at Hoshiarpur. It had decided to acquire the said land
under the Land Pooling Scheme, under which, both the options (land against
compensation and land against land) are to be offered to the land owners.
Around 50 per cent of the total area acquired in each urban estate is likely
to be used for the development of roads, parks, public utilities and parking
area and 5 per cent will be reserved for providing houses to the economically
weaker sections.
