Sterlite Energy on 22 April 2010 signed an operation and maintenance (O&M)
agreement with Evonik Energy Services India, for its 2,400 MW (4x600 MW) power
plant in
Jharsuguda, Orissa. The contract valued at Rs 1,400 crore is for 82 months.
Sterlite Energy's Unit I of Jharsuguda power plant is expected to become
commercially operational by May 2010 with each of the other units expected to be
commissioned within one year. The project is being implemented by SEPCO-III, the
China based EPC contractor.
Evonik is likely to assist the EPC contractor apart from setting up systems
for operation. The systems include a simulator for training operational staff
and online optimisation and diagnostic systems to achieve best possible heat
rates and high availability. Also, Evonik is likely to bring in its proprietary
plant management system and latest fault prediction systems which will ensure
that downtime for maintenance is reduced to a minimum.
